Every once in awhile you have the unique opportunity to meet and interact with an individual that sets himself apart from the rest.  Charlie Nelson is one of those people.

I have fished for many years and for many different species, to include Walleye.  In those many years I have contracted with a few guide services that, to say the least, have left me disappointed and empty handed.  This absolutely was not the case with Charlie Nelson.

Charlie’s knowledge and documentation of the river from years of studying fish habits, personal fishing and competing in tournaments, combined with his advanced technology and amazing equipment all work together to put you in the middle of the action. I was amazed at the sheer numbers and quality of fish that we caught.  Catching your limit with Charlie is a piece of cake! 

However, it’s not his vast knowledge, years of experience and cool fishing “toys” that really set him apart from the other guides I have used.  No, it goes much deeper than that.  When you go fishing with Charlie you are not treated like a mere customer but more like a life long friend.  You know the kind of friend that would show you how and where to catch “Ole Marble Eye” and then let you have all the credit. 

The hospitality did not stop with just Charlie.  His entire family makes you feel welcome!  His wife and their 3 daughters are as genuine as he is.  They greeted us warmly, and enquired about our fishing triumphs for the day.  They packed up our fish at the end of the trip and sent us on our way with a few mementos of our amazing trip.  Mostly, they just made us feel welcome and comfortable. 

I firmly believe that a man of character will live by the old saying “actions speak louder than words”.  Charlie’s actions scream out integrity, honesty and loyalty.  The few days that my brother and I spent fishing with Charlie will leave an imprint on my memory forever.  Many guide services offer fishing experiences.  Charlie offers en experience of a lifetime that just happens to include a lot of great fishing! 

Charlie thanks for the fantastic time.  We will see you the same time next year.  Save a place on your wall of fame.  My brother may have caught the biggest fish this year, but next year it’s my turn!  Or I’ll leave him at home!!
